Collin Gosselin, a former reality TV star, shared his experiences of alleged abuse by his mother, Kate Gosselin, in a recent interview with ABC. He described being isolated from his father, Jon Gosselin, and being made to sleep in a locked basement room.
Collin recounted an incident where a teacher noticed his swollen earlobe, which he claims resulted from Kate dragging him by his ear. Following this observation, he discussed the situation with a guidance counselor, which led to his removal from school in the fourth grade. He expressed fear when questioned about abuse allegations by child protective services.
“JON & KATE PLUS 8” REALITY STAR’S TELL-ALL MEMOIR FOLLOWS YEARS OF ABUSE ALLEGATIONS
The memoir highlights Collin’s claim that his mother had him institutionalized against his will. He alleged that she zip-tied him and locked him in his basement room after an attempt to run away. Similarly, days before his 12th birthday, he was reportedly placed in an institution, administered medication, and received limited family contact.
According to Collin, Kate alleged he had autism, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, an independent psychological evaluation indicated otherwise. Kate has previously denied these abuse allegations, responding to comments on her TikTok videos.
“Everybody was like, ‘Were you surprised when you got this?’ I was like, ‘No,'” Collin shared. “Because I knew that, I needed it on paper.”
Collin’s earliest memories involved camera crews filming his family, particularly during the popular show “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” He described how cameras, lights, and filming became a constant routine in their lives, marking a shift from a simple life to one of heightened exposure.
Reflecting on his childhood, Collin noted the first indication of abnormality came with his parents’ divorce. He expressed that exploiting children, such as filming them during personal moments like potty training, was wrong.
Fox News Digital reached out to Kate’s representatives for comment on the allegations. Despite remaining largely silent, Kate defended herself on social media, addressing claims by Collin about family dynamics.
In response to a fan’s comment suggesting a defamation lawsuit, Kate expressed frustration, noting the different rules for public figures. She clarified she had consulted legal advisors about past defamatory claims but faced challenges due to her public status.
Kate also highlighted the difficulties faced by parents with mentally ill children, underscoring a lack of understanding from those who haven’t experienced similar situations. Tracy Wright, an entertainment reporter for Fox News Digital, compiled this story.
