Five individuals were discovered dead late Friday night in a home located in South Georgia. Law enforcement is actively investigating the incident. The Douglas Police Department (DPD) reported finding the victims with apparent gunshot wounds upon their arrival at a residence on Robin Lane, in the Touchton Woods neighborhood, at approximately 11:09 p.m.
Local news source Douglas Now indicated that authorities are considering the event as a potential murder-suicide. As of Saturday morning, the police had neither identified the victims nor released details about a suspect.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, described the situation as a “terrible tragedy.”
The statement read, “Our hearts are with the families and friends who lost somebody they love last night. Please pray for them. And please pray for all of our first responders who were there last night. This was a hard scene for everybody involved.”
Douglas is situated in Coffee County in southern Georgia, around 115 miles northwest of Jacksonville, Florida. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s July 2025 population estimate, Douglas has about 11,864 residents.
On Saturday, Newsweek reached out to the Douglas Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office via email to gather more details.
Recent Mass Shootings
This tragic incident follows a series of recent shootings involving multiple victims in Georgia. On the same Friday night, Erie, Pennsylvania, experienced a mass shooting that claimed nine lives, including two children.
The Gun Violence Archive (GVA) defines a mass shooting as an event where at least four people are shot, either injured or killed, excluding the shooter. The recent deaths in Coffee County marked the third weekend in a row that Georgia authorities reported a mass shooting or another instance of multi-victim gun violence.
Last weekend, a shooting at a homecoming celebration in Vienna, Georgia, approximately 80 miles northwest of Douglas, resulted in two fatalities and left 35 others injured. That incident began around 1:25 a.m. during a neighborhood party spread over four blocks.
In a separate event on September 27, a shooting at an 18th birthday party at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon injured 12 teenagers. Five suspects were charged in connection, including a 15-year-old charged as an adult, CBS affiliate FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Macon is roughly 60 miles north of Vienna and about 115 miles from Douglas.
Ongoing Investigation
The Douglas Police Department indicated its investigation is active and officials anticipate releasing additional information later on Saturday.
