Oklahoma University has removed true freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers from its football team, as confirmed by team officials on Thursday. This decision comes shortly before the Sooners face Texas in the Red River Rivalry scheduled in Dallas.
The university did not provide a specific reason for Rogers’ dismissal. Consequently, Rogers has been taken off the team’s roster. The development underscores the disciplined culture that head coach Brent Venables has instilled since his tenure began. Venables has maintained rigorous program standards in Norman.
Jahsiear Rogers, standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 180 pounds, joined the Sooners as a four-star recruit from Appoquinimink High School in Wilmington, Delaware. He chose Oklahoma over major programs like Alabama, Nebraska, and Penn State. During the spring game, Rogers managed to catch five passes, totaling 70 yards.
Despite his potential, through the first month of the 2026 season, Rogers logged only six offensive snaps and did not catch any passes. Gabe Ikard, a former Oklahoma player and current Sooner Radio Network analyst, commented on X stating, “If you don’t treat the people that pour into the program with the respect they deserve, then there’s no place for you at Oklahoma.”
Although Rogers’ absence might affect the team’s depth in the future, it is not anticipated to impact the upcoming game against Texas significantly. Coach Venables emphasizes a philosophy: adapt to team expectations or leave.
