San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has faced disciplinary action due to a violation of the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. The NFL has suspended York for six games and imposed a $500,000 fine linked to an incident involving an attempt to hire a sex worker in a trailer park.
York previously served three of the suspension games. The league officially announced the punishment on Friday. In a public statement, York expressed regret for his actions, labeling them as an ‘inexcusable mistake.’
‘Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision fully,’ stated York. ‘To my family, the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, as well as our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry.’
York acknowledged the mismatch between his conduct and personal values. He emphasized the importance of accountability and teaching his sons to learn from failures. He vowed to regain the trust of the 49ers community over time.
York was taken into custody by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force on August 23. The arrest took place after York answered an online advertisement for prostitution at a trailer park location. Following the arrest, York was found with $160, which were confiscated.
York pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools, including his phone used in the incident. He was sentenced to two days in Columbiana County Jail, with one day credited, and ordered to complete an online anti-prostitution course. York was fined $1,150, bringing his total financial penalties, including the NFL fine and legal costs, to $501,310.
York distanced himself from the 49ers and initial league meetings during the investigation. The NFL specified that his absence from three regular-season games counts towards his suspension. He may return on October 20, aligning with the NFL’s fall meeting, where questions may arise regarding the situation.
