Actor Robert De Niro recently made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he humorously portrayed FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. On this occasion, De Niro teased host Jimmy Kimmel with a baseball bat and mockingly slapped him.
During the show, Kimmel recalled a previous situation with the FCC. “We were just getting back on the air during our time in Brooklyn after a forced break by the FCC,” he stated. He highlighted ongoing threats from the FCC over the past year.
De Niro entered the scene and inquired, “You’re being threatened by the FCC? Who is threatening you? Am I a threat?”
He then humorously listed several insults about President Donald Trump. When Kimmel asked the purpose, De Niro sharply retorted, “Did I say it was your turn to talk? You speak when allowed, or remain silent.”
The FCC has not commented on these interactions, despite requests. De Niro continued with a comedic jab: “Did you say President Trump has more inappropriate encounters than Adele’s music touches hearts?”
Kimmel countered, “That’s amusing, right?” De Niro warned, “Am I going to have to create trouble for you?”
In reaction, a White House spokesperson, Davis Ingle, criticized De Niro’s comments and suggested seeking help, suggesting his words were rooted in outdated grievances.
The White House also released a statement about Kimmel, condemning him as talentless and his show as victim to declining ratings.
Returning to host after a summer break, Kimmel took the opportunity to celebrate the 4,000th episode milestone, underscoring the longevity of the show despite FCC actions. “We have done 4,000 shows, which seems to be too many according to some,” Kimmel remarked.
Notably, radio host Howard Stern also appeared on the show, commenting on the importance of Kimmel to ABC and hinting at potential consequences if Kimmel were treated unfairly.
This segment highlights the playful yet critical nature of late-night television in addressing regulatory and political tensions.
