Delaware’s Final Primary of 2026 Highlights Key Political Movements

Delaware voters are heading to the polls, concluding the primary season of the 2026 election cycle. This cycle featured significant progressive and socialist victories over traditional Democratic rivals, showcasing President Donald Trump’s enduring influence among Republicans, despite some setbacks.

Democratic Contests

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons, facing primary challengers, aims to secure a third term in the Senate. Meanwhile, state Attorney General Kathy Jennings also confronts primary opponents. Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride remains unchallenged in her primary, as the Democrats gear up for the general election against Republican contenders.

The primary season has been pivotal for the Democratic Party, with unexpected outcomes. Left-wing and Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) supporters emerged victorious, in some cases unseating established incumbents.
