Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian experienced a challenging evening on Saturday. His team went down 23-3 in the third quarter before launching a thrilling comeback to defeat Ohio State 24-23.
Sarkisian’s frustration was evident during halftime and post-game interviews. According to the ESPN broadcast, he rushed through the tunnel as sideline reporter Laura Rutledge attempted to reach him. Texas was trailing 20-3 at this stage.
During the halftime, Rutledge clarified that Sarkisian had declined the interview due to delays caused by ESPN’s technical issues. She noted that Sarkisian had waited patiently and expressed his apology, although Rutledge felt that ESPN owed him an apology, which they provided.
After the game, ESPN’s Holly Rowe tried to interview Sarkisian, but the interaction was brief and less than smooth. Sarkisian shared a quick message of “Texas fight, hook ’em” before heading back to the locker room.
Online reaction to Sarkisian’s brief comments was mixed as college football fans reflected on the day’s games. Quarterback Arch Manning contributed significantly to the victory, with 195 passing yards and a touchdown. Hollywood Smothers rushed for 74 yards and scored two touchdowns.
In contrast, Ohio State’s Julian Sayin threw for 278 yards, securing a touchdown along with an interception. Jeremiah Smith stood out, making eight catches for 164 yards and a touchdown.
