Police in Seattle are actively searching for a second suspect involved in a shooting at a bustling food festival beneath the city’s Space Needle. The incident resulted in the death of three individuals and injuries to four others, including a toddler. One suspect is already in custody.
According to Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis, the suspects were shooting at each other during the event. Despite one suspect remaining at large, Davis assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. However, police have yet to provide a description of the missing suspect, leaving many questions unanswered.
“We’re still trying to figure this out,” Davis stated.
On Sunday evening, gunfire erupted during the Bite of Seattle, a popular annual festival that draws numerous food vendors, performers, and attendees. The tragedy unfolded around 6 p.m., with officers already present on site witnessing one of the suspects firing. One suspect surrendered, while the other evaded capture amidst the chaos.
Two fatalities occurred at the scene, a third victim later died in hospital. The deceased were a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman. The four injured, including a two-year-old boy, were reported to be in stable condition at local hospitals.
Festival-goers recounted the panic. Faith Adia Hunter shared her experience:
“We were right next to him when it started so we took off running.”
Hunter and many others sought shelter at the Seattle Children’s Museum. The chaos led vendors to abandon their stands, and hours later, they remained outside, hoping to retrieve their belongings.
Roberto Ramirez, another vendor, noted the confusion:
“Suddenly everything was empty. People were freaked out.”
Estan Wakonabo described a rush of fleeing people and initially mistook the gunfire for harmless noises:
“Once I heard a ‘pop, pop, pop,’ that’s when I knew it was a shooter.”
Wakonabo ensured the safety of his girlfriend before returning to photograph the scene, witnessing multiple victims on the ground.
Founded in 1982, the Bite of Seattle attracts approximately 350,000 visitors annually. Authorities continue to investigate the tragic event as the community reels from the incident.
