Dustin Lampros: MMA Fighter Turned Predator Catcher

In Delray Beach, Fla., Dustin Lampros navigates a grocery store, aiming to identify a suspected child predator, not to purchase items. The mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter has made it his mission to expose alleged child predators since 2022. Online, he goes by 561 Predator Catcher, a reference to his local area code.

Known as Scrappy in the MMA world and among friends, Lampros fought against bullies on the fourth-grade football field, earning his nickname. His quest to catch adults who prey on children began after a cybersecurity-savvy friend alerted him to the online threat.

“We had multiple grown adults reaching out to ‘Amy,’ a fake 13-year-old profile,” Lampros recalled, shocked at the quick responses from men.

Motivated by painful memories of people close to him being victims, including a childhood friend abused by their principal, Lampros felt compelled to act. He now collaborates with decoys nationwide who pose as children, exchanging messages and setting up meetings with the potential predators.

When a meeting is arranged, he contacts police and approaches the suspect with questions. Recording interactions with Meta glasses, he challenges them with evidence of their communication.

MMA training and faith help him maintain composure. “Inside I’m boiling,” he admitted, but he knows physical confrontation could harm legal proceedings. His aim: ensure arrests and convictions.

At Sunrise, Florida’s MMA Science Academy, other fighters support Lampros’ mission. Despite the difficulty of not utilizing his fighting prowess against suspected predators, Lampros remains focused on his ultimate goal.

Since starting his quest, roughly 100 catches have been made, with ten resulting in convictions. The remaining cases continue in the legal system. Techniques have evolved—he now coaxes perpetrators into revealing information instead of using physical methods like push-ups—as police evidence is crucial.

Without police coordination, Lampros supplies authorities with case details during encounters. He sometimes faces dangerous situations, having once escaped from a gun confrontation.

Lampros persists, propelled by belief in his mission. Opponents label him a vigilante, and legal challenges arise, but he stays determined.

Before 561 Predator Catcher, Lampros lived the dream of any young MMA fighter. His record stood at 7-0 with five knockouts, and his ambition was the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). However, he felt unfulfilled, realizing the need for purpose beyond the ring.

Focused on a higher cause, Lampros hopes to aid parents in protecting children online, even after his MMA career ends. With faith guiding his path, he aims to continue battling online threats to children and, possibly, join the UFC ranks someday.
