Congressman Survives Plane’s Emergency Lake Landing

Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany experienced a scare when his small plane lost power and made an emergency landing in a lake. Luckily, he and the pilot escaped with minor injuries.

Tiffany explained that the incident occurred as their four-seat Bonanza aircraft approached Wausau Downtown Airport after an appearance at the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner. The plane unexpectedly lost power, prompting an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau.

“The pilot executed an emergency landing on the lake,” Tiffany reported. After the plane hit the water, the two quickly called 911, but the plane started to fill with water and sink before help could arrive.

In response to the sinking plane, Tiffany and the pilot exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow area of the lake. They waited there until emergency personnel arrived by boat to rescue them.

After being rescued, Tiffany and the pilot were taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where they both received treatment for minor injuries. Tiffany expressed his gratitude towards the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all first responders involved in the rescue operation.

“They ensured our safety and took us to the hospital, where the care we received was excellent,” Tiffany shared. His wife, Chris, joined him at the hospital, offering comfort after the harrowing incident.

Tiffany reflected on the incident, acknowledging the preciousness of life. He said, “God watched over us. I am thankful to be here with my wife, Chris, by my side.”

The event stirred reactions across social media, with people expressing relief over Tiffany’s safety. Comments included gratitude for their well-being and prayers for everyone involved.

Tiffany, who represents Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, is currently vying for the position of Governor in the state’s election. Meanwhile, investigations continue regarding the cause of the plane’s power loss.
