Four police officers in Wisconsin were injured on Saturday morning when a suspect drove into a crowd. Officers from the Green Bay Police Department responded to a disturbance around 2:15 a.m. local time at a food truck. They were attempting to take some individuals into custody when a vehicle drove towards the bystanders and officers, which led an officer to discharge their firearm.
The suspect fled, prompting a brief police chase that ended with a PIT maneuver. This tactical move is used by police to halt vehicles. Green Bay Police were able to apprehend the driver without further incident on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The injured officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical care. No injuries were reported from the firearm discharge.
Police Chief Chris Davis, during a news conference, stated that the department has yet to determine if the driver had any relation to the disturbance near the food truck. He also noted that some of the officers’ injuries occurred before the vehicle drove into the crowd while taking people into custody.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office will aid in investigating the incident involving officer-involved shooting.
