Yankees Triumph in Subway Series Amid 9/11 Anniversary Observance

The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets 6-4 in a game at Yankee Stadium. The event coincided with the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Outfielder Cody Bellinger played a key role, hitting a three-run home run off Mets rookie Nolan McLean in the second inning.

The game saw a brief interruption when a spectator, carrying a Palestinian flag, ran onto the field. Security at Yankee Stadium quickly detained the individual. The disruption occurred at 9:11 p.m. Details about how the person accessed the field remain unclear. Witnesses reported fans throwing drinks and chanting ‘U-S-A’ as security escorted the individual away.

The Yankees and Mets commemorated the anniversary by wearing special caps in honor of FDNY, NYPD, and other responders. Major League Baseball players and coaches wore caps with ‘We Shall Never Forget’ patches.

Designated hitter Ben Rice also contributed a home run, aiding the Yankees to improve their record to 85-62. This win leaves them three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. Rookie Spencer Jones and Ryan McMahon added RBI singles in the first and eighth innings, respectively.

Carlos Rodón allowed two runs and three hits over 6.3 innings. He struck out eight, including two against Mets slugger Juan Soto, who was met with boos from Yankees fans.

Bellinger’s impressive performance included catching the ceremonial first pitch from Brielle Saracini. Her father, Victor Saracini, piloted United Airlines Flight 175, which struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Bellinger’s home run off a full-count curveball gave the Yankees a 4-1 lead. Rice hit his 37th home run by sending a sinker into left field during the fifth inning.
