Texas Engineer Fatally Stabbed in Random Park Attack

A 62-year-old engineer in Texas was tragically killed in a random attack, leaving the community in shock. Andrew James Wimsatt, from Austin, was attacked on September 7 in Round Rock after visiting his mother at a nearby nursing home. Authorities have charged a local man, Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, aged 26, with murder and theft.

According to surveillance footage, Wimsatt was seated on a park bench around 11 a.m. when his assailant approached from behind and stabbed him repeatedly in the neck. Despite his attempts to fend off the attacker, he was unable to escape. The suspect was later seen on video wiping blood off his shirt before leaving the area.

Wimsatt, who held a Ph.D. in civil engineering, was known for his work with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute and had ties to Fox News personalities. He contributed as an executive producer for a horror/comedy film and shared a passion for nature photography on social media.

Fox News hosts expressed their condolences and described Wimsatt as a kind and generous person. Greg Gutfeld noted the engineer’s willingness to help others and his genuine enjoyment in promoting content he loved. Kat Timpf spoke of him as a fan turned friend, recalling his support and friendship during challenging times.

Wimsatt’s sudden death has left those who knew him struggling to comprehend the senselessness of the crime. His dedication to his mother and the joy he found in comedy were emphasized by Tyrus, another host who counted Wimsatt as a friend.

“He was a kind, generous man, nearly beheaded in a park on a sunny morning, for no reason,” said Gutfeld.

Authorities received a 911 call on Labor Day reporting Wimsatt’s body in the park, where paramedics confirmed his death. Investigators tracked the suspect and gathered key evidence, including bloody clothing and the murder weapon.

Benedict Ogbodiegwu, who has a history of theft and deception-related arrests in Williamson County dating back to 2017, is currently held on a $1 million bond. He was recently released from jail in June, following a series of earlier incarcerations.

The suspect claimed to have a twin brother when confronted with evidence, but failed to provide a name. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 8, where he faces serious charges relating to Wimsatt’s murder.
