The creators of the animated series South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have humorously announced a name change for the show. They stated that the series will be rebranded as ‘South America’ in a satirical move aimed at both President Donald Trump and major tech companies.
The Satirical Announcement
As the show approaches its 29th season, Parker and Stone explained that their decision draws inspiration from recent geographic renamings instigated by the Trump administration. They specifically mentioned Apple and Google, which aligned their map services with these changes.
‘Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to South America,’ they said. The creators also extended thanks to their parent company, Paramount, using the phrase ‘a Skydance Capitulation’ to satirize how the company handled pressures during its merger with Skydance Media.
This announcement seems to serve as a promotional joke rather than an actual rebranding of the series. The series will continue to air under its original name.
Recent Satirical Focus on Trump
South Park is well-known for its political satire, a tradition that spans nearly 30 years. Recently, the series has centered many storylines around Trump and his administration. Among them, Trump’s depiction in a relationship with Satan mirrors earlier portrayals of political figures. Episodes have also featured Vice President JD Vance as a character from Fantasy Island.
This focus garnered attention at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where the show won Outstanding Animated Program. The creators celebrated by mocking Trump’s previous comments about the Emmys.
Trump’s Geographic Renamings
The satirical name change references actual renaming efforts by Trump. An executive order was issued to call Lake Ontario ‘Lake America’ during a trade disagreement with Canada.
Both Apple and Google adopted this change in their map services. Meanwhile, MapQuest gained popularity for refusing to follow suit.
Looking Ahead
South Park’s new season debuts on September 16 on Comedy Central. The episodes will be available on Paramount+ in several regions. The promotional satire suggests Trump will continue to feature frequently in upcoming storylines.
