Fatal Parking Lot Shooting Investigated as Possible Hate Crime in Tucson

Two men were killed outside a gay bar in Tucson, Arizona, on Monday morning in a shooting that police are investigating as a possible hate crime. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Venture-N, a bar located in midtown Tucson.

Police identified the victims as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspected gunman, Ousman Ceesay, 44, was also found with gunshot wounds when authorities arrived around 12:30 a.m. He died shortly after at a nearby hospital. It remains unclear if his injuries were self-inflicted.

Police revealed Ceesay had a list of L.G.B.T.Q.-associated businesses that he might have been targeting. Following the shooting, patrols around L.G.B.T.Q. venues in the city were increased.

Ceesay had an address in Oklahoma City and no significant criminal history, apart from a speeding ticket in 2012. In 2018, he filed for bankruptcy alongside his then-wife, and attempts to reach her have been unsuccessful. The court records noted that Ceesay worked briefly as an Uber and Lyft driver.

Tucson’s Mayor Regina Romero described the shooting as a “direct and devastating attack on our L.G.B.T.Q. community” in a social media video statement. She emphasized that this tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the continued presence of homophobia in the country.
