Lionel Richie, the renowned singer and “American Idol” judge, was hospitalized in St. Louis on Monday following a concert at The Muny in Forest Park. The reasons for his hospitalization have not been disclosed.
Richie, aged 77, has encountered multiple health issues over the summer. These problems led to the cancellation of several of his shows.
“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” Richie expressed in a July social media post. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
Prior to this incident, Richie had postponed performances due to feeling “dizzy” during a tour-opener in Minnesota. His scheduled concerts in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, were canceled as per doctor’s advice.
On Instagram, an announcement stated: “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows.” Richie was reportedly saddened to reschedule and expressed eagerness to perform for his fans.
A representative from the St. Paul Fire Department confirmed that an individual was transported from Grand Casino Arena to a local hospital on June 24, 2026.
During a performance at the Grand Casino Arena, Richie appeared notably different to his fans about an hour into his concert. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” Richie took a brief break, sitting on a platform. He indicated feeling lightheaded. Richie humorously advised the crowd, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a– down.”
Richie has been a judge on “American Idol” for nine seasons, continuing his involvement in the entertainment industry.
