Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently voiced concerns about the potential impact of Harvard University’s educational environment on his children’s Christian values. He questions if his daughter, Paloma, should pursue her interest in attending the Ivy League school.
In a YouTube series episode, The Great American Roadtrip, Duffy emphasizes the importance of diverse perspectives, stating, “I want them to get a lot of different viewpoints, but I don’t want them fed only one viewpoint that’s contrary to the way my kids were raised.”
While Paloma is keen on Harvard, Duffy and his wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, are cautious. Campos-Duffy notes that perspectives encountered at Harvard might clash with their Catholic faith, which they consider crucial to their family life.
Their discussion follows a recent U.S. District Court decision dismissing a lawsuit against Harvard. The Trump administration had accused Harvard of not protecting Jewish and Israeli students from antisemitic incidents on campus. The lawsuit’s dismissal comes amidst a backdrop of rising tensions following the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Harvard faced multiple protests, and Jewish students reported harassment at the school. The Trump administration has a history of disputes with Harvard, including halting research funding over concerns about the university’s response to antisemitism.
Despite these concerns, Duffy, along with his family, visited Harvard. During their visit, they spoke with a Catholic priest about life on campus for Catholic students. This conversation led Duffy to adopt a more open mindset about his daughter attending Harvard. He acknowledged, “A smart good girl can completely navigate what is a really good school.”
Discussing trust in their upbringing, Duffy expressed cautious optimism about Paloma attending Harvard, saying, “We need to trust that what we armed her with will hopefully be enough for her.”
Fox News Digital contacted Harvard for comments, but no response has been recorded. Elaine Mallon, a writer for Fox News Digital and Fox Business, covers national politics extensively.
