Imran Khan Hospitalized for Medical Examination in Islamabad

46 minutes ago 0

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, was transferred to a private hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment. This move came after a Supreme Court order and a promise from a Cabinet minister to comply with the directive.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, associated with Khan, issued a statement confirming his transfer from Adiala prison to Shifa International Hospital. However, details were sparse regarding whether Khan would return to prison post-examination or receive prolonged treatment at the hospital.

Hours prior, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry highlighted the government’s search for Supreme Court clarification on whether the medical relief granted to Khan could extend beyond the ex-premier to other detainees. Chaudhry’s comments followed a Supreme Court decision mandating Khan’s examination by a medical board at Shifa International Hospital.

In a social media post, Chaudhry assured the government would honor the court’s ruling, emphasizing the request for clarification wasn’t intended to undermine or delay the decision implementation. Arrangements for Khan’s transfer were reported to be complete.

Khan’s public appearance has been scarce since his incarceration in 2023 over corruption allegations. He previously held the position of Prime Minister until his parliamentary removal in April 2022.

Concerns over Khan’s health surfaced in January when his family claimed a significant vision loss in his right eye. The government contested this, later stating Khan had regained much of his vision and noted improvements in his health.
