1 hour ago 0

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Despite falling 1-0 to the New England Revolution, the Chicago Fire clinched a playoff spot on Saturday night. This marks their first consecutive postseason appearance since they made three straight from 2007 to 2009.

The Fire secured their playoff berth under coach Gregg Berhalter. They benefited from Orlando City’s 4-1 victory over D.C. United later that evening. Currently, the Fire hold a 14-10-6 record with 48 points, placing them fourth in the Eastern Conference. They have four regular-season matches left.

Last year, the Fire made the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and proceeded to win their first postseason match since 2009. They achieved a 3-1 victory over Orlando City in the Eastern Conference wild-card match.

During the match against New England, Matt Polster scored in the first half, securing the win for the Revolution. Polster’s goal came in the 26th minute, assisted by Carles Gil and Peyton Miller, marking his second goal of the season. Matt Turner, the Revolution’s goalkeeper, saved six shots, achieving his sixth clean sheet of the season out of 30 starts.

Turner has improved significantly, having only two shutouts in his first 112 starts for the club last year. On the other side, Chris Brady saved three shots for the Fire, who are now experiencing a two-match losing streak after a prior three-match winning streak.

The Fire’s upcoming match is scheduled for Saturday against Atlanta United.
