Frank Siller Reflects on Loss and Legacy in ‘Let Us Do Good’

1 hour ago 0

Frank Siller, the Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, has penned a memoir titled Let Us Do Good, in honor of his brother Stephen Siller. Stephen, a firefighter, lost his life during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Frank recounts his brother’s heroic act of running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to help during the attacks. The memoir delves into the family’s journey and the foundation’s mission to provide support to injured veterans and families of first responders.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is undertaking a significant initiative as the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches. They are transporting a steel beam from the South Tower on a 10,500-mile journey across the United States. This initiative seeks to educate and remind future generations about the events of 9/11. Frank Siller emphasized in a press release that the journey’s purpose is to ensure that people across the nation remember and understand the significance of that day.

The steel beam, weighing 16,900 pounds and measuring 21 feet, will make stops in over 20 states. Events will feature local officials, first responders, and foundation members, serving as a moving tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11. The steel’s journey, named ‘Steel Across America’, aims to bring a tangible piece of history to communities nationwide, honoring civilians, first responders, and service members who sacrificed their lives.

Frank Siller founded the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor Stephen Siller, who died as an FDNY firefighter responding to the 9/11 attacks. The journey began in Lower Manhattan on May 2 and will traverse much of the country, reaching locations such as California, Arizona, Washington, D.C., and Texas. This initiative will culminate at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey before the beam returns to Ground Zero for the 25th anniversary.

Throughout its journey, the beam will be displayed at museums, town squares, sporting events, and even the White House, highlighting its historical significance. One of its notable stops was at Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida, where President George W. Bush was informed of the attacks on September 11, 2001. Former White House chief of staff Andy Card, who conveyed the critical news to President Bush, was present at the school’s commemorative event in May.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, initiated in Stephen Siller’s memory, goes beyond merely remembering. It provides mortgage-free homes to families of fallen service members and first responders and actively combats veteran homelessness. As a tribute to the 343 FDNY firefighters who perished on 9/11, the foundation is delivering 343 mortgage-free homes this year.
