The new Highmark Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, received its first public exposure during recent weeks. Fans and critics expressed differing opinions on the venue’s debut. Initial reactions highlight some issues with sightlines and field conditions.
Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Perspective
Former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick shared a contrasting view. He mentioned that his friends used his season tickets for the first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers and reported a positive experience. Despite social media criticism, Fitzpatrick trusts feedback from people he knows well.
Fitzpatrick, collaborating with VRST, the men’s activewear brand by DICK’S Sporting Goods, stated, “Everybody has their opinions. It could be the opinion of 14 people versus the opinion of 59,000 people. So, I rely on the people that I know and love the best.” He expressed optimism about experiencing the stadium first-hand in the future.
Stadium Capacity and Design
Criticism also focused on the new stadium’s seating capacity, which is 10,000 seats fewer than the previous venue. Fitzpatrick argued that the lower capacity might enhance the game-day experience. “It’s 60,000 people, but I think for the opponent that comes in there, it’s going to feel even louder,” he stated. He highlighted the stadium’s design, including a canopy, which could amplify crowd noise.
The Bills will face the Detroit Lions in their season opener, providing an opportunity to assess the stadium’s atmosphere firsthand.
Field Quality Concerns
Some players raised concerns about the grass field. One anonymous player described the field’s condition as subpar to The Athletic. Conversely, linebacker Dorian Williams noted, “The grass looked good. It was cool.” He did acknowledge some minor issues with the field surface but preferred it over turf.
Fitzpatrick’s Active Lifestyle and VRST Partnership
Beyond football, Fitzpatrick embraces an active lifestyle. His partnership with VRST emphasizes comfort and style, crucial for his dynamic schedule, which includes family and professional commitments. Fitzpatrick appreciates how VRST attire meets his needs, whether attending events or spending time with family.
“For me, the authenticity of it — it just captures my vibe,” Fitzpatrick said. He highlighted the versatility of VRST clothing, suitable for various situations, from soccer games to traveling for “Thursday Night Football.”
