Upcoming Special Election for Marco Rubio’s Seat

2 hours ago 0

The upcoming special election in November will determine who will fill the Senate seat left vacant by Marco Rubio after his appointment as secretary of state.

Senator Ashley Moody, a Republican from Florida, currently holds the seat following a temporary appointment. Moody, who previously served as the state’s attorney general, is campaigning for her party’s nomination to complete Rubio’s term, which runs until 2028.

In the election, Moody is likely to face either state Representative Angie Nixon or retired Lieutenant Colonel Alex Vindman. Vindman is notable for his significant involvement in the first impeachment proceedings of President Donald Trump. The winner of the Democratic primary will compete against Moody in the special election this November.

Moody’s candidacy represents a continuation of Republican leadership, while the Democratic contenders offer different perspectives and backgrounds. Nixon brings experience from state-level politics, while Vindman provides a military and national security viewpoint.
