2 hours ago 0

Law enforcement arrested fifteen people and impounded seven vehicles following a street takeover incident in Long Island. Officials reported that reckless driving, stunts, and other dangerous activities took place early Saturday morning.

The Suffolk County Police Department, through its Street Takeover Task Force, identified the potential event using intelligence and active monitoring of social media ahead of Friday night, August 14.

Investigators discovered that a group planned to conduct a takeover somewhere in Suffolk County. This extensive area spans about 1,000 square miles and covers the eastern two-thirds of Long Island. Police tracked the group throughout the night as they moved across different locations.

Officers intervened initially near Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip. They then disrupted activities near Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue before finally intercepting the group around 12:50 a.m. near Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford. Police reported that vehicles shut down the roadway by engaging in reckless driving, stunts, and performing donuts and burnouts.

The Street Takeover Task Force responded by arresting 15 people, impounding seven vehicles, and issuing multiple traffic citations. Those taken into custody came from various communities within Long Island and New York City.

Fourteen of those arrested faced charges for both participating in and spectating an unlawful speed contest. This enforcement action follows another significant street takeover event in Suffolk County just weeks prior, during which over 200 ATVs, dirt bikes, and motorcycles filled the roads in Hauppauge and Brentwood. That earlier incident led to three arrests and the impounding of 10 vehicles.
