Rep. Marcy Kaptur Expresses Gratitude After Toledo Car Accident

Rep. Marcy Kaptur, known as the longest-serving woman in the U.S. House, recently addressed the public with an update following a car accident in Toledo, Ohio. In a video shared on X, Kaptur expressed gratitude for the well-wishes received, which she claimed have significantly aided her recovery.

Kaptur, aged 80, was involved in an accident while on her way to a church service with her staffer, Keegan Zimmerman. The incident occurred when their vehicle was hit in what police called a ‘hit-skip’ crash near the junction of Detroit and Central Avenues. Ohio’s ‘hit-skip’ law refers to a driver’s obligation to stop after a crash.

Kaptur declared, “Thank you so much for the thousands of good wishes from our community, region, state, and even worldwide. It’s made a huge difference in my rapid recovery.”

In the video, Kaptur appears seated in a wheelchair, recovering, and shared her appreciation for the first responders and medical teams at Mercy St. Vincent’s. Despite her injuries, Kaptur emphasized the excellent care she received and praised the dedication of the medical staff.

Kaptur is currently on an August recess, providing her extra time to heal before returning to her congressional duties in Washington, D.C.

On a political note, Kaptur is campaigning for her 23rd term in the House. She faces former Ohio State Rep. Derek Merrin again in November after narrowly defeating him in their last matchup. The upcoming election in Ohio is considered a critical battleground for the House majority.

Concluding her message, Kaptur shared a touching moment with a handmade card she received from a child named Avery featuring a drawing of a dog named Charlie. The card uplifted her spirits, a gesture she appreciated deeply.
