Jorge Messi, father of renowned soccer star Lionel Messi, has passed away at the age of 68. He died in a hospital in Rosario, Argentina. Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys delivered the news through social media, mentioning his recent medical treatments for an unspecified illness.

The club described Jorge as a foundational figure who supported Lionel’s success, alongside his wife, Celia Cuccittini. The South American Football Confederation, CONMEBOL, also expressed condolences, acknowledging the loss with respect and affection.

Earlier this year, Lionel Messi led Argentina to a runner-up finish in the World Cup. During the tournament, Messi displayed emotional vulnerability after a goal against Algeria. He later shared that he had been experiencing difficult personal challenges, appreciating his teammates’ support through his tough time.
