Barion Brown Stands Out in New Orleans Saints Training Camp

The New Orleans Saints selected Jordyn Tyson in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, partnering him with Chris Olave to provide quarterback Tyler Shough with two strong receiving options. However, it’s the sixth-round pick, Barion Brown, who has attracted significant attention during the training camp.

Barely a week after the team’s head coach, Kellen Moore, praised Brown, he impressed during a practice session. On Thursday, Brown executed a stunning 46-yard touchdown from quarterback Spencer Rattler, closing out a two-minute drill in an exciting fashion.

Initially part of the second team for training camp, Brown has earned increased snaps with the first team. This adjustment could signal a potential substantive role for him in the team throughout the 2026 season.

Barion Brown gained recognition in 2023, earning first-team All-American and second-team All-SEC honors while at Kentucky. He recorded 539 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 43 catches, and achieved 576 kickoff return yards with three return touchdowns. The following year, he once again earned first-team All-SEC honors and then transferred to LSU for his senior season. There, he managed 532 receiving yards and brought in a touchdown on 53 catches, along with 445 kickoff return yards and an additional return score.

Over his four years in college football, with three seasons at Kentucky and one at LSU, Brown amassed 2,060 receiving yards, 12 receiving touchdowns, 1,910 kickoff return yards, and six return touchdowns. This explosive performance made him a special teams standout the moment New Orleans brought him on board, yet he is swiftly building a substantial role in the broader offensive strategy.

Coach Moore spoke highly of the synergy between Rattler and Brown following the practice. “Barion did a great job adjusting to that ball, tracking it. Those deep passes tend to veer because of the quarterback’s motion, so he did an amazing job making that play,” Moore stated.

Although there is still time before Week 1, Brown appears to have a genuine chance of securing the No. 3 receiver position. He faces competition from Devaughn Vele and fourth-round rookie Bryce Lance for targets.
