A report by Maine Wire editor-in-chief Steve Robinson revealed that Jackson has two sons with Lana Pelletier, who is his second cousin. The relationship, though not illegal or uncommon in rural northern Maine where Jackson resides, has sparked criticism and debate on social media.
Several figures, including Rep. Nancy Mace and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, voiced their opinions online. Some comments suggested incredulity and disapproval of the Democratic Party’s choice of a candidate.

Troy Jackson, a former state senator and a candidate for governor earlier this year, was selected as the U.S. Senate nominee during the Maine Democratic Party’s convention.
