A 5-year-old boy is in critical condition after being wounded in a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s Near West Side, in the Little Italy/UIC neighborhood, according to police. The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. when a black SUV approached a large group in the 1000 block of West 14th Place.
An individual inside the vehicle fired shots at the group. The young boy was hit in the abdomen and was transported to Stroger Hospital. He remains in critical condition. A 39-year-old man also sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was taken to the same hospital and is reported to be in good condition.
The SUV fled south on Morgan Street following the incident. Police are currently investigating, and no arrests have been made.
