When Jake Paul began his journey into professional boxing, many questioned his abilities. His opponents largely comprised retired MMA fighters such as Anderson Silva, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and a 58-year-old Mike Tyson. This choice led to widespread skepticism about his boxing prowess.
Paul maintains a 12-2 record in boxing. Of the three legitimate professional boxers he faced, he lost to Anthony Joshua and Tommy Fury. His sole victory came against 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision. The defeat to Joshua was harsh, resulting in a broken jaw for Paul, an injury that seems to have prompted him to consider a new career path.
The 29-year-old former YouTuber now entertains the idea of pursuing a career in the NFL. He claims to have spoken with several teams interested in signing him. “I have a couple teams and coaches that I’ve already talked to that are interested in bringing me onto the team,” Paul shared with Front Office Sports. He expressed confidence in this new venture, calling it “really going to be quite easy.”
Paul’s last stint in competitive football dates back over a decade when he played at Westlake High School. During his freshman and sophomore years, he participated in varsity before shifting his focus to entertainment.
Despite his lengthy absence from football, Paul is convinced he can surpass many current NFL wide receivers. He stated, “I think there’s a lot of super mediocrity in the NFL. A lot of not-good athletes. A lot of people dropping passes on a consistent basis. I have better hands than them, I’m faster than them, I’m stronger than them, I work harder than them — really all it’s going to take after boxing is me practicing some routes.”
When asked about his preferred team, Paul mentioned the Cleveland Browns as the ideal choice. His attachment to the team stems from his upbringing as a fan and his mother’s declared devotion to them.
However, according to NFL insider Benjamin Albright, attempts by Paul’s camp to reach out to the Denver Broncos were unsuccessful, as the team showed no interest in signing him.
