U.S. Companies Secure Energy Deals with Iraq

Several U.S. companies have recently signed significant oil-related and other agreements with Iraq. These deals were announced soon after President Trump indicated that both countries would engage in multiple partnerships due to Iraq’s oil resources.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce organized the event where companies such as Chevron, ConocoPhillips, HKN Energy, and Halliburton inked energy-related agreements. Chevron’s contracts concern the development of oil fields in Iraq and explore the possibility of a cross-border pipeline linking Iraq and Syria. ConocoPhillips secured a deal to potentially explore a gas field and collaborate with BP in developing another oil field.

HKN Energy has committed to a contract aimed at oil field development and production. Additionally, some agreements extend beyond the energy sector, involving companies like Cisco, JPMorgan, Starlink, and PepsiCo. However, certain deals are preliminary or non-binding, indicating further discussions may occur later.

“Our goals in the Middle East are to transform a region that’s been riven by too much conflict and diffuse those conflicts and replace them with commerce,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright explained.

Suzanne Clark, the President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, stated that the deals announced hold a collective value exceeding $60 billion.
