A man died in Florida after being hit by a tractor trailer during a run-in with federal agents. The incident marks the third fatal encounter with U.S. immigration officials in a week. Authorities report the death occurred on Tuesday.

The man was part of a group of four in a vehicle at a St. Augustine gas station. ICE and Homeland Security agents approached them. The group fled, and one man ran onto a busy road. He was struck by a semi-truck. The semi’s driver stopped and tried to assist.

Rising Count of Deaths

This marks at least the 10th death involving immigration agents since President Trump’s deportation efforts commenced last year. The Department of Homeland Security stated it conducted an operation, but details of what prompted the encounter remain unknown.

The other three occupants’ status is unclear. Homeland Security acknowledged the death of a Mexican national but did not respond to further inquiries.

State Rep. Angie Nixon expressed her views on the incident, labeling it a tragedy. She pointed to past events where ICE actions led to fatalities, emphasizing the fear and chaos these encounters induce.

Previous incidents include the death of a Guatemalan man in California hit by an SUV while fleeing and a Honduran gardener struck by a pickup truck in Virginia. The Mexican government has requested U.S. state attorneys general review migrant deaths for potential prosecution.
