Nielsen’s preliminary figures show the broadcast on Fox averaged 24.43 million viewers, peaking at 31.88 million towards the end. This viewership became the largest for an English-language soccer broadcast in U.S. history.

The match broke the previous record set by the 2015 Women’s World Cup final between the U.S. and Japan, which had an average of 22.32 million viewers. The Spanish broadcast on Telemundo added another 9.1 million, bringing the total to a record-breaking 33.53 million viewers for a soccer match within the United States.

This World Cup has been consistently breaking ratings records since it began. Each match draws massive audiences, underscoring the growing popularity of soccer in the U.S.

The game was especially significant as the U.S. sought its first knockout stage victory since 2002, attempting to recover after a disappointing loss to Turkey. Bosnia and Herzegovina, entering the match after advancing from Group B, aimed to defeat the U.S. on its home turf.

The U.S. secured a 2-0 victory, though it came with challenges. Star player Folarin Balogun received a controversial red card, leaving the U.S. with ten players for the final approximately 25 minutes. This card also sidelined Balogun for the upcoming Round of 16 match against Belgium.
