Savannah Guthrie, host of the “Today” show, made a heartfelt plea to viewers for information about her missing mother. Her appeal came following reports that a ransom note had suggested her mother was deceased.
Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, 84, went missing from her Tucson-area home on February 1. A surveillance video later released by the FBI showed a masked individual at her front door. Blood found on the porch added to the mystery, but the case remains unsolved.
Media reports have mentioned ransom notes received soon after Nancy’s disappearance. KOLD TV station revealed receiving two notes. One demanded a ransom in Bitcoin. The other indicated that Nancy Guthrie had died. CNN also reported on these notes, stating that the kidnappers did not intend to cause her death.
During a broadcast, Guthrie addressed viewers from the “Today” desk, imploring anyone with information to come forward. She remained emotional throughout, expressing her family’s ongoing distress.
“We are in agony, and we cannot be at peace. We love our mom. We’ll never stop looking for her,”Guthrie declared.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department forwarded inquiries regarding the ransom notes to the FBI, which chose not to comment. Tom Morrissey, a former chief U.S. marshal, explained that details of a ransom note might be shared publicly if it helps identify a suspect, though often specifics are withheld to not compromise the investigation.
Bob Krygier, a former lieutenant with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, emphasized the importance of caution in declaring a missing person deceased without concrete evidence, such as finding the body.
In the aftermath, volunteers and search teams explored the desert terrain near Tucson. A search near the Arizona-Mexico border yielded no results.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have appeared in social media videos, urging the public to provide tips. Guthrie asked for prayers and reflected on the possibility that her mother might be ‘dancing in heaven’ with their father.
