Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis Bring ‘Warriors’ to Broadway

4 hours ago 0

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis are set to transform their concept album, Warriors, into a full-length Broadway production. Originally derived from a 1965 novel later adapted into a dystopian film in 1979, the story revolves around a gang called the Warriors. They journey from the Bronx to Coney Island in Brooklyn, facing danger from rival gangs and the police.

This will be Miranda’s first full musical endeavor since Hamilton. The new show is scheduled to start previews in March and officially open in April at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Jenny Koons will direct, with the script penned by Miranda and Davis.

No casting details have been revealed yet. Miranda and Davis expressed their excitement in a statement, saying that bringing the vibrant world from the concept album to life on Broadway is thrilling.

The Warriors album was released in 2024. It retained the core story while introducing changes like making the gang members women. It featured an impressive lineup of artists, including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Billy Porter, and many others.

The music blends a wide array of genres, such as salsa, ska, rock, pop, and K-pop. The tracks include English, Spanish, and Korean. Songs like “We Got You,” an R&B piece, and “Quiet Girls,” a feminist anthem, highlight the diversity in styles and themes.
