June 7, 2026 – Congressional Democrats expressed renewed concerns regarding Graham Platner, the expected Democratic Senate nominee in Maine. This followed several women describing their volatile and ‘toxic’ experiences in relationships with him.
A woman accused Platner of physically threatening behavior. Representative Ro Khanna of California believes her account and urged Platner’s campaign not to criticize her.
The New York Times reported allegations from women who had dated Platner. They claimed he could be volatile and demeaning in relationships. These revelations came after recent reports of Platner exchanging sexual messages outside his marriage last year.
Senator Mark Warner of Virginia commented on the situation. He labeled the allegations as ‘beyond disturbing.’ However, he emphasized that Maine voters would decide their impact on Platner’s candidacy.
If these allegations are true, they’re very troubling. Warner stated on Fox News, But I don’t know if they are true or not. I think, frankly, the people in Maine ought to decide that.
Platner’s Response
Platner disputes any claims of physical intimidation. His campaign clarified that Platner, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq, faced PTSD struggles. He admitted to self-medicating with alcohol during a challenging period before claiming a personal transformation.
Platner considers the reports about sending sexual messages as unrelated distractions to pressing voter concerns.
