Zelenskyy Discusses Dismissal of Defense Minister and Ukraine’s Challenges

Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine has nearly regained full control of the Dnipropetrovsk region, leaving only about 10 square kilometers under Russian control. He remains optimistic about Ukraine’s ongoing military operations and the potential to restore control over additional territories by the year’s end.

Political and Budgetary Challenges

Fedorov’s dismissal led to protests, but no reversal occurred. Zelenskyy stated that elections during this period would pose enormous risks and potentially destabilize Ukraine. He emphasized the lack of a secure plan for conducting elections amid the current conflict.

Zelenskyy also addressed the financial strain on Ukraine’s defense budget, acknowledging a $27 billion shortfall. Touching upon a separate corruption inquiry, Zelenskyy clarified his non-involvement, as determined by the anti-corruption agencies.

The Ukrainian leader expressed concern over the shortage of Patriot air-defense missiles, essential for countering increasing Russian missile attacks. He noted a decline in deliveries from Western allies and cited efforts to secure additional missiles for future needs.
