Young Georgia Mayor Ousted After Less Than a Year in Office

Former Stockbridge, Georgia Mayor Jayden Williams, who was the youngest to hold the position, was removed from office amid allegations of misconduct. Speaking to WSB-TV, he expressed surprise at the outcome. ‘I didn’t expect this,’ Williams said. He anticipated possible censure but not removal.

Williams, 23, served as mayor for less than a year before his term ended due to allegations regarding the misuse of city funds and a relationship with an 18-year-old high school student. When questioned about recognizing the relationship as inappropriate, Williams responded, ‘I would have to somewhat agree to that.’

Reports indicated the relationship was non-sexual. Williams confirmed the exchange of nude photos but denied any criminal wrongdoing, as the student was an adult under Georgia law.

Regarding city funds, Williams admitted to personal purchases using the mayor’s reallocated $5,000 annual budget, not the general city fund. ‘It was not intentional and I paid it back immediately,’ he told WSB-TV. He explained the city purchasing card resembled his personal card, leading to confusion, but he later replaced the cards to prevent future errors.

Williams made history as Georgia’s youngest mayor after campaigning while attending Clark Atlanta University. His tenure ended when the Stockbridge City Council impeached him earlier this month.
