Woman Shot by NYC Police After Knife Attack in Times Square

A woman armed with knives was shot by New York City police in Times Square on Monday afternoon. The incident, which occurred near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, involved an alleged attack on multiple individuals, according to law enforcement officials.

Police responded to reports of a person wielding a knife. Authorities stated that the woman allegedly slashed at least two people before officers fired shots. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect carrying two knives and disregarding police commands to drop them.

New York City Councilman Carl Wilson addressed the situation on social media, indicating that NYPD is still investigating. The area between 42nd and 43rd on 7th Avenue is currently closed to foot traffic during the ongoing investigation. Further details will be released as they become available, according to Wilson.

Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal also communicated via social media, echoing Wilson’s message. As of now, the conditions of the suspect and victims remain unknown. Police have stated there is no evidence suggesting the incident is linked to terrorism.

The New York City Emergency Management advised locals to expect delays due to the closure of the 7th Avenue stretch through Times Square. This area is a well-known, heavily policed site that attracts massive numbers of visitors daily.

This attack follows a spike in violent events around Times Square in recent months. Last week, an MTA employee was stabbed during a dispute at the Times Square-42nd Street subway station, as noted in police reports.
