The U.S. Open experienced an unexpected rain delay due to a malfunction with the roof sensors at Louis Armstrong Stadium. This mix-up temporarily prevented the roof from closing, leading to rain falling on the court.

The night session, usually busy with back-to-back matches, encountered disruptions. The rain began just after No. 9 seed Elina Svitolina swiftly defeated Solana Sierra, with the next match set to start early.

While most outside courts halted play due to the rain, the roofs at Armstrong and Arthur Ashe Stadium were supposed to provide cover. However, Armstrong’s roof malfunction forced a delay. Fans waited as the court dried, resulting in about a 90-minute hold-up before play could continue.

During this delay, concession stands experienced increased activity as fans lined up for refreshments, notably the Honey Deuce cocktail. The lines, initially long due to the unexpected pause, dwindled once the roof finally closed and play resumed.

The match between Alexander Bublik and J.J. Wolf eventually started at around 9:30 p.m., much later than anticipated. By this time, some bars at the stadium had nearly exhausted their supply of ingredients for the popular drink.
