The U.S. Mint has announced the release of $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump’s likeness, available for purchase starting Wednesday at noon ET. These coins, gold-colored but composed primarily of copper, commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The obverse side of the coin displays a rendering of Trump’s face, accompanied by inscriptions such as “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” On the reverse side, the presidential seal is depicted, showcasing an eagle with an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, along with an inscription that reads “250,” marking the semiquincentennial celebration.
The coins are available in various quantities, affecting their prices. For instance, a roll containing 25 coins is priced at $61, whereas a bag containing 100 coins costs $154.50. The coins are deemed legal tender and serve as commemorative collectibles, according to the U.S. Mint.
Despite regulations requiring deceased individuals for currency depictions, the Trump administration cites a 2020 law allowing new designs for the country’s anniversary, permitting the inclusion of Trump’s likeness on the coins. Additionally, the U.S. Mint is offering 250,000 special-issue coins with a “July 4th” privy mark sprinkled randomly within purchasable bags and rolls.
