Three teenagers sustained injuries during a shooting on Monday night near a large gathering at 57th Street Beach in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. The incident occurred as various teen gatherings gain attention in prominent areas, prompting efforts by anti-violence workers and police.
According to Chicago police, the event took place at approximately 10 p.m. on the 1600 block of East 55th Street. An 18-year-old man and two 19-year-old men were standing outside when they heard gunshots and realized they were hit.
The 18-year-old received a hand wound and was transported to UChicago Medicine, where he was in good condition. One of the 19-year-olds was injured in the leg and was also taken to the same medical center, in good condition. The third victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and made his way to UChicago Medicine, also in good condition.
Chicago police described the scene as a large gathering but did not confirm if it was a formal event at the beach. Investigations are ongoing as no suspects have been apprehended for the shootings.
