This major shipping waterway has been tense amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. Trump assured that no injuries were reported from the event while addressing reporters before boarding Air Force One on Tuesday. ‘We are going to issue a report tomorrow,’ he stated, emphasizing the pilots’ well-being.
The New York Times first reported the incident. The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route where about 20% of global oil supply usually transits, has been mostly inaccessible due to Iran’s blockade related to the war. The European Union’s council accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy of obstructing freedom of navigation through toll impositions and threats directed at commercial vessels.
Trump has pledged to maintain the lane’s accessibility, suggesting that a peace agreement with Iran is on the verge of realization. He expressed optimism on Tuesday about a near-completion deal, ensuring it would prevent nuclear armament. ‘The strait will open up right away. It’ll open up immediately upon signing, which could be in two or three days,’ he remarked.
