Trump’s Continued Influence in GOP Primaries

President Donald Trump’s influence remains strong in the 2026 primary season. All candidates he endorsed have won their contests. Madeleine Rivera from Fox News highlights Ken Paxton’s victory in the Texas Senate primary runoff. This success, along with other down-ballot wins, underscores Trump’s significant clout within the Republican Party.

Dina Titus Secures Democratic Nomination in Nevada

U.S. Representative Dina Titus has won the Democratic primary in Nevada’s 1st Congressional District. On Tuesday, she emerged victorious against challengers Gabriel Cornejo, Joy Hoover, and Luis Paniagua. Titus will now pursue her eighth term in Congress, having represented the Las Vegas-area district since 2013. Titus’ campaign was boosted by support from labor unions and Democratic organizations, combined with a strong fundraising advantage.

Titus faced criticism from competitors advocating for new leadership within the Democratic Party. However, she maintained that her congressional experience and focus on issues like tourism, transportation, and veterans affairs led to her primary win. Titus entered the race as the frontrunner despite facing calls for generational change in the party.

Before Congress, Titus was a Nevada Senate member and a political science professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She initially won election to Congress in 2008 from Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District.

Upcoming General Election Focus

With the primary concluded, attention turns to the general election. Titus will compete against the Republican nominee in a district that has grown more competitive due to redistricting. The Cook Political Report still rates Nevada’s 1st Congressional District as “Likely Democrat” because of Titus’ incumbency and the district’s Democratic leaning.

The district contains eastern Las Vegas, Henderson, Paradise, and other Clark County areas. According to the Cook Partisan Voting Index, the district holds a D+2 rating. Republicans have not won this seat since John Ensign’s tenure ended in 1999. The upcoming general election will be watched closely to see if the Democrats maintain their hold on the district.
