Trump to Headline ‘Great American State Fair’ Amid Artist Cancellations

3 weeks ago 0

WASHINGTON (AP) — Plans for “The Great American State Fair,” set to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary, have faced challenges as several musical artists have withdrawn partly due to connections with President Donald Trump. Organizers now confirm Trump will headline the event.

On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance.” He teased bringing “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP” as a replacement for the artists who backed out.

Freedom 250, the organization planning the fair, issued a statement confirming Trump’s participation. They announced, “We are excited to announce that President Trump will personally kick off this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 24.” However, Trump’s posts mentioned a rally on a Wednesday without clarifying the date. The White House did not comment on this discrepancy.

Danielle Alvarez, a Freedom 250 spokesperson, highlighted that the fair, running from June 25 through July 10, will feature a wide range of attractions, including exhibits, family-friendly activities, musical performances, and flyovers.

Trump, on his social media account, criticized the performers who decided against participating. He suggested a simpler solution: “Cancel it.” He proposed a “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250,” instead of hosting “overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.”

Freedom 250 describes itself as nonpartisan, although it was launched by Trump last year and led by a former State Department appointee from Trump’s administration. Recently, artists like Bret Michaels, the Commodores, and Martina McBride withdrew from the event. They cited miscommunications about the show’s theme and concerns over political associations.

In contrast, some performers such as Flo Rida, Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli, and Vanilla Ice, will participate. Vanilla Ice’s representative stated that the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper is “proud to help celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary.”
