Trump Shares AI-Generated Video Claiming Attack on Iran’s Kharg Island

On Sunday, President Donald Trump posted a video on Truth Social, seemingly generated by AI, showing explosions on Iran’s Kharg Island. However, Iranian sources did not report any U.S. military action on the island over the recent weekend.

Trump’s post read, “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!” Kharg Island plays a vital role in Iran’s economy, handling 90% of the country’s oil exports. The island is located just 15 miles from the Iranian mainland.

Both Washington and Tehran engaged in military exchanges for the first time since late July. The U.S. aims to coerce Iran into an agreement through ongoing economic pressure and sanctions.

Hamid Bovard, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, dismissed Trump’s post as “laughable,” asserting that operations on Kharg Island continued normally.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for American forces in the Middle East, did not mention any attack on Kharg Island. They stated instead that they carried out “limited, precise action” against Iranian minelaying capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz.

Capt. Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesperson, confirmed that two Iranian launchers on Larak Island were targeted. Larak Island is one of several Iranian territories in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran’s military claimed it launched ballistic missiles at two Jordanian air bases, alleging “heavy damage.” Additionally, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported they stopped a tanker on Monday, alleging it was hit by naval mines while attempting to navigate the southern edge of the Strait of Hormuz.
