President Donald Trump expressed approval of Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., describing him as a “great guy.” Trump mentioned he would be open to Fetterman transitioning from the Democratic to the Republican Party.
Upon his arrival at Joint Base Andrews, Trump was questioned by reporters about Fetterman’s departure from certain Democratic positions in Congress. When asked if Fetterman had been approached about joining the Republicans, Trump said, “I’d love to see it. I think he’s great.” Trump added, “It’s going to be hard for him to get the nomination as a Democrat, but I’d love to have him as a Republican.”
Reasons Trump Supports Fetterman
Trump further shared his thoughts, portraying Fetterman as a “great guy” with commendable parents. He praised his judgment and common sense, labeling him “a very solid person.” “He’s smart and all that, but he’s got great common sense,” Trump said. He also speculated that switching parties might be advantageous for Fetterman, commenting, “If you look at the polls, he does better as a Republican than he does as a Democrat.”
Fetterman’s Political Moves
Recent developments have sparked discourse regarding Fetterman’s potential political realignment. Despite maintaining a Democratic voting record about 81% of the time in the current session, Fetterman has openly disagreed with his party on several significant matters, such as Iran and immigration.
There are reports of him using Republican fundraising methods and close relationships, notably with Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala. Introducing Sen. Dave McCormick at a Republican event and mistakenly calling himself a lifelong Republican at a Texas Tribune’s TribFest appearance have added to the speculation.
Fox News has sought comments from Fetterman’s office on the situation.
