President Donald Trump made an appearance at the New York/New Jersey Stadium for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. He was seen alongside first lady Melania Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The opening ceremony featured a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Jennifer Hudson. Her performance resonated with the crowd, despite Team USA’s earlier exit in the Round of 16 to Belgium.
After the ceremony, Trump, along with the audience of over 80,000, applauded Hudson’s performance. A FOX broadcast showed the applause as a testament to the event’s atmosphere.
In addition to Hudson, British singer Robbie Williams performed, followed by a speech from actor Tom Cruise. Cruise spoke on themes of togetherness and unity displayed during the tournament across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
As the excitement built, the World Cup trophy arrived in a Louis Vuitton case. Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz and 1978 Argentina World Cup champion Mario Kempes participated in the trophy presentation.
Trump and FIFA President Infantino were seen again at a reception at Trump Tower in New York before Trump’s planned attendance at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., for the final.
The final brought forth two strong teams. Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, sought to defend their title after their 2022 win against France. Meanwhile, Spain, in their second-ever World Cup Final, aimed to secure victory with talents like Lamine Yamal and Mikel Moreno.
The event emphasized the spirit of competition and unity, resonating with the massive audience at the stadium.
