Transgender Federal Employees File Lawsuit Over Insurance Policy Changes

2 hours ago 0

This year, the Trump administration directed insurance providers to remove gender transition care from federal employee insurance plans.

In response, transgender federal employees filed a lawsuit on Monday against this decision. They accuse the administration of violating civil rights protections against sex discrimination.

The case was initiated by five workers, represented by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. They argue that the Office of Personnel Management breached Title VII by instructing insurance providers in January to exclude coverage for gender transition care.

The lawsuit makes a strong comparison, equating the denial of essential treatment to refusing ongoing insulin treatment for individuals with diabetes.
