A Kansas man made a distressing 911 call on Tuesday, admitting to killing his family before taking his own life as officers arrived at the scene in Winfield.
Police Chief Robbie DeLong stated that an officer approaching the house heard a gunshot and pulled back, forming a perimeter around the property due to the uncertainty of the situation. The standoff lasted approximately two hours after the initial call.
Upon entry into the house near 9th Avenue and Stewart Street, officers discovered six deceased individuals, indicating an apparent murder-suicide.
The shooter was identified as 53-year-old Ronald H. Williams Sr., who had alerted the police. The victims included Kelly L. George, 44, and four children: Carol A. Williams, 9; Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7; Sarah K. Williams, 5; and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.
Williams Sr. had a criminal history in Kansas, listed as a sex offender since June 1997. His previous charges spanned between 1995 and 2024, including offenses such as drug-related charges, battery, assault on law enforcement, and attempted rape and kidnapping across eastern Kansas counties.
The tragic incident is currently under investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Winfield Police Department.
