U.S. Representative Thomas Massie has signaled a potential return to politics by filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for the 2028 election cycle. This step suggests he is considering a political comeback following his recent loss in the House primary.
The announcement took place a week after Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, was defeated by Ed Gallrein in the Republican primary for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District. Massie secured 45.1 percent of the vote, while Gallrein garnered 54.9 percent.
The campaign was intense, marked by a public dispute with President Donald Trump. Trump criticized Massie, calling him the “worst congressman in the Republican Party” during the campaign.
Massie shared the news of his FEC filing in a post on the social media platform X, shortly after noon Eastern time on Memorial Day. He stated, “I filed with FEC for the 2028 House race. This allows me to raise funds to continue my political operations supporting my position as a current office holder and as a potential candidate for federal office. I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run.”
This move indicates that Massie is considering his future options carefully as he plans his next steps following his prominent electoral defeat.
This is an evolving story and further updates are anticipated.
